Liberal Government Extends SkyTrain to Langley City

July 9, 2021

(Cloverdale - Langley City)  Today, the Liberal government has made an historic infrastructure investment of $1.3 billion to extend SkyTrain from King George Station to Langley City Centre along Fraser Highway. The investment will help cut down commute times, reduce congestion and greenhouse gas emissions, and create good, middle-class jobs in Cloverdale - Langley City while connecting our communities.

“The desire for transit improvements is a high priority for many residents in Cloverdale-Langley City. This is a message I’ve consistently heard,” said John Aldag, Federal Liberal Candidate for Cloverdale - Langley City. “While the current representative was fighting MAiD, including in Delta Hospice, fighting for parking lot church services in Ontario, and trying to roll back 2SLGBTQQIA+ rights and women’s reproductive rights across the country, I sponsored a petition calling for transit improvements including extending the SkyTrain to Langley.”

“Since 2019, I’ve continued to listen to our community. I spoke to members of the Liberal Party of Canada to ensure the government remained aware of the importance of these much-needed transit improvements,” said Aldag. “And today, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and the Liberal government responded to my calls to invest in our community. With the support of the provincial government and local mayors, I am pleased to say that extending the SkyTrain to Langley became a reality. I began fighting for these improvements when I was elected in 2015, I never stopped, and the Liberal government delivered.”

Through the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Plan, the Government will invest more than $180 billion over 12 years in public transit projects, green infrastructure, social infrastructure, trade and transportation routes, and Canada’s rural and northern communities. Cloverdale - Langley City needs a driven, proven, and progressive leader to ensure continued investments, like this one, happen in our community.
