Dear Friends and Neighbours,

The Langley Islamic Centre received a hateful and threatening letter this week. This is unacceptable.

I am angered, saddened and filled with resolve to fight this kind of hatred in our community. Far too often Muslims in our community continue to face discrimination, simply because of their faith.

Islamophobia has no place in Canada. We must all stand up to Islamophobia and other hateful ideologies and each do our part to ensure that all of our neighbours feel welcome and safe in our community. Denying Islamophobia and ignoring racism will not make it go away. This threat was a solemn reminder that although our community strives to make diversity our strength, the few seek to spread division and fear.

We must stand strong together - as Canadians in all our diversity - make it be known that hate does not belong in our community, and continue to fight racism every day in all its forms.
